Sheepskin Information

Sheepskin Care Instructions –

Caring for your sheepskin products is very important to ensure, as they will last many years when looked after correctly! We recommend to regularly shake the rugs vigorously to remove any dust or small particles and brush your rug, as this will keep the wool from bedding down.

Small sheepskin rugs can be machine washed. You will need to use the Cool Wool setting 30c Not hot water as this will damage the suede. We recommend the use of ONLY a specialist non-enzyme shampoo/detergent. Do not use non alkaline products. Do not use products containing biological enzymes or bleach..

After you have washed the rug, please remove as much excess water as possible, by gently wringing it out. You should never use a tumble drier to dry any sheepskin products. You must allow your rug to dry Flat and naturally away from any direct heat source, including radiators, the sun and airing cupboards. If you dry the sheepskin too quickly, the suede will become solid and it will be ruined. We recommend to occasionally massage and flex the skin side of the rug as it dries to ensure its suppleness and that it keeps its shape. Also combe the wool through using a wire brush when wet and again before it is completely dry, it will help to keep the wool fluffy and inviting!

Or you can send your rugs back to us, as we can offer a cleaning service. Where we take them back to the tannery and they can come back looking new. (Dependant on the care/age of rug)

Spot cleaning – If you do spill something onto your rug. We recommend the use of ONLY a specialist non-enzyme shampoo/detergent. Do not use non alkaline products. Do not use products containing biological enzymes or bleach. Please carefully rinse through the area as soon as possible with tepid water. Clean affected area only using a soft cloth in circular motion, starting on outside of area and working into centre. Then use a dry cloth to apply pressure and remove excess moisture. When dry brush.

Properties of sheepskin - Sheepskin absorbs water and doesn’t necessarily need to be washed. A good result will be obtained by shaking and airing outdoors in high humidity. The water vapour will pass through the skin and remove dirt particles and odours. Natural sheepskin with lanolin has a self-cleaning effect if left to hang in the air. It absorbs sweat and releases it into air much faster than synthetic materials. Self-regulating in terms of temperature, making it excellent for summer and winter.

Packaged - Sheepskin Rugs, Car Seat Accessories, and Cushions etc. -Your orders of sheepskin products may have to be tightly packaged for delivery and the wool may flatten slightly. Wool is a very resilient natural product and will after a vigorous shake bounce back with any folds disappearing from it, once removed from the packing in several days.
